In a signed press release dated January 4, Mutua says KFCB will sue beer firms advertising alcoholic products over watershed period. The film regulatory agency has further stated that failure by the beer companies to withdraw unclassified alcohol adverts in the next seven days will render them to prosecution.

"Following public complains submitted to the Kenya Film Classification Board regarding the broadcast of alcohol advertisements during the watershed period (5 am to 10pm), the board has written to the companies responsible, drawing their attention to the fact that they are in breach of the law. These companies include: East Africa Breweries Limited, Keroche Breweries Limited and Africa Spirits Limited…" read part of the press statement.

He further adds that the advertisements were produced without a film license contrary to the law.

"..the advertisements were produced without a filming license contrary to Part II(4) of the Film and Stage Plays Act cap 222…" Mutua added.

Last year, KFCB wrote to Coca-Cola forcing the global firm to scrap a kissing scene in a #TasteTheFeeling television advert because it ‘violated family values.’

In original banned ad, a three-second scene depicts two strangers having a passionate embrace in a library.

Six adverts with the tagline ‘Taste the Feeling’ were released globally in January 2016.

KFCB had previously asked YouTube to do away with a music video about same-sex relationships on ‘moral grounds.’
