County Commissioner John Elungata has warned factories manufacturing second generation liquor without approval of dire consequences.

Mr Elungata said no manufacturing factory in Kisumu has been licensed by the inter-agency committee of the Ministry of Interior.

He said six factories were inspected and failed to pass the test set by the committee.

The Commissioner said the law will deal firmly with any manufacturer found to be operating illegally in the manufacturing of the second generation alcohol.

“All the factories manufacturing second generation alcohol in Kisumu County failed the test and none has been certified to operate,” he said.

Speaking in Kisumu on Friday after a joint meeting with security apparatus in the county, Elungata said that the government is not against the manufacturing of liquor but it must be done legitimately.

He further appealed to the public to volunteer information that would help in the fight against illicit brew.

He announced that the government will not relent in the fight against consumption and manufacturing of the illicit brew.

Elungata said all alcohol manufacturing companies in the county were subjected to stringiest inspection to cushion the public from consuming uninspected alcohol.

“The public will benefit from the streamlining of the alcohol sector. I want them to assist the enforcement officers to rein in on illicit brews,” he said.
