A middle-aged business man was arraigned in a Nakuru court to face assault charges he committed against three officials of Fanaka Welfare Group.
According to the prosecution, Martin Wangatia 36, caused serious body harm to William Kamau,Philis Kimeu and Moses Njoroge on December 1 this year at Njoro Canning factory after he disagreed with them over the refund of his welfare shares.
Chief Resident Magistrate Patrick Mwaniki was told that the accused who had asked the group officials to refund him his accumulated shares took the law into his own hands when he attacked the three officials using a metal object after they told him that the welfare constitution requires that a member submits a resignation notice in writing to be approved after sixty days.
The prosecution desk held that the accused was adamant over the rule and went ahead to assault the officials thereby causing serious body harm after he stormed the welfare committee meeting at Njoro Canning Factory.
The accused was arrested on December 5 after the complainants recorded a statement at Njoro Police station and filed P3 forms. He was released on a Sh.30,000 bond just ahead of the hearing of the case scheduled on January 7 next year.
