Failed family and social institutions values are to blame for the increasing number of destitute children in the country.
This was observed by the Director of Moi Children’s home Agness Nderitu on Sunday when she hosted Christian Union student members of Egerton University, Nakuru Town Campus while the donatinv food and clothing to the homes children.
Nderitu said that modern changing socio-economic trends have made it difficult for young people to value family and traditional values that ensured good care of young ones.
She also observed that social institutions like churches and other religious institutions do not hold up to the expected functions of holding moral standards in society.
“Our future generations are threatened because of the weakening family and social institutions that no longer embrace morality and social security values. Many children live in destitution because they have never received the required care by family or society,” said Nderitu.
She added that many modern parents and young people were either ignorant or either cared less about family values and social morality of giving birth and taking care of their children in the right way.
She attributed these to the pressures in life due to the changing socio-economic standards that have also affected stakeholders including governments, philanthropists, and religious institutions.
