Faithful at a church in Western Kenya were left in surprise when an MP volunteered to carry a cross to signify the suffering and subsequently the crucifixion of Jesus Christ more than 2,000 years ago.
Raphael Wanjala (Budalang'i, ODM) had joined faithful at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Port Victoria in his constituency to commemorate the day Jesus was nailed on the cross by the Romans as Christians across the world congregated in churches to celebrate the day popularly known as Good Friday.
The legislators carried the wooded the cross for close to two kilometres as faithful followed him closed while the church's choir sung praise hymns.
The day is observed during the Holly Week as part of the Paschal Triduum two days before Easter Sunday.
"May Peace, Love and Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ surround you and your family on this Easter Holidays," Wanjala said shortly after offloading the cross from his shoulder before prayers kicked off.
He took time to remind Budalang'i residents as well as Kenyans to maintain peace especially now when the country is facing division because of politics.
All Christians across the world- Anglicans, Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Lutherans, Methodists, Orientals as well as reformed traditionalists observe Good Friday with fasting in church.
