Unlicensed alcohol brand dealers in Nakuru have been warned to stop engaging in the business or risk facing the law if apprehended.
The chairman of Nakuru County Alcohol Manufacturers Association (NACAMA), Mike Gaitho while addressing journalists in Nakuru on Tuesday warned those involved in producing and distributing counterfeit alcohol brands, and those not registered by the government to desist or face the laws.
Gaitho said that investigations had revealed that some of the alcoholic drinks distributed mostly in local pubs and selling at cheap prices are counterfeit and contain toxic substances that could endanger the health and lives of members of the public who consume them.
"We are aware that some crooks are manufacturing fake alcohol brands to gain quick riches. Investigations are at an advanced level and soon these people will be brought to book,” said Gaitho.
He added that his association was working with police and the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA) to investigate the perpetrators of counterfeit alcohol drinks.
"These people have home made factories and employ people to collect empty bottles of which they use to pack the illegally distilled alcoholic spirits. We are narrowing down on them and they should stop before it is too late,” added Gaitho.
He further noted that the syndicates, apart from putting the lives of members of the public at risk were cutting deep into the genuine manufacturers profits.
