Residents of Njokerio village and a section of Egerton University students, on Tuesday afternoon attacked and seriously injured two middle-aged men who impersonated police officers.
According to area Sub-Chief Leonard Karanja, the two identified as Paul Kipsang and Martin Mwaura tried to extort money from a bartender when the incident occurred.
“The suspects upon being requested to produce their police identification cards pretended to call for reinforcement from other police officers, but the bar patrons, mostly university students pounced on them and beat them up,” he said.
The incident that attracted curious members of the public and other university students disrupted normal business operations at the village market as the suspects who are believed to be residents of Mau Narok received a thorough beating from enraged patrons of the drinking joint.
The seriously injured duo were then tied with ropes and frog matched to the assistant chief’s office a few metres away from the busy business centre that mostly serves the university students, before being ferried to Njoro Police Station after the sub-chief called the police.
