A 36 year-old man was arraigned in a Nakuru Law Court for fraud charges and possession of counterfeit documents.
Chief Resident Magistrate Felix Kombo was told by the prosecution desk that the accused, Enock Ondari fraudulently obtained a sum of Sh15,000 from Eunice Nyawira who is a businesswoman based in Gethima area within Nakuru town, by pretending to be a field officer employed by the Kenya Power on diverse dates in January this year.
According to the prosecution desk, the accused who was in company of others who were not before the court approached the complainant at a construction site in the said area and offered to assist her install electricity in a new building.
The court heard that the accused had produced several documents to identify himself as a genuine employee of the said power company and went ahead to solicit for a down payment from the complainant for him to start the installation work.
However, after receiving the money after a two day constant communication with the complainant, he switched off his phone that terminated communication between him and the complainant.
Ondari was however arrested in January 29 after a prolonged investigation by police officers from Nakuru Central Police Station.
He denied the charges and he was released on a Sh70,000 cash bond awaiting the hearing of the case in March 3 this year.
