Residents of Getare village Oroche Mogonga sub location Kenyenya Kisii County descended on a middle-aged man with kicks and blows after he pretended to be a witch doctor.
According to the residents, the man identified as Mogendi Ong’ayo claimed that he is a witchdoctor and capable of performing rituals to heal his cousin’s wife who is sick.
“Mogendi failed to perform the rituals as he claimed that his cousin’s wife is attacked by evil spirits which should be removed by performing rituals. We contributed funds and paid him but he failed to heal the sick. We could not let him because he started playing cards with us. He had to pay all his lies,” said Florence Barongo, a resident.
Area Nyumba Kumi official Daniel Marambe confirmed the incident and said the man was rescued by police officers who were on patrol.
“The man was rescued by police officers who were on patrol from the hands of the angry locals who were baying on the blood of the fake witchdoctor otherwise he could be a past tense by now,” said Marambe.
Marambe urged locals to stop using shortcuts to earn a living because it is risking their lives.
A police officer who declined to be named said the fake witchdoctor sustained serious head, hand and abdomen injured and he is currently admitted at a Kisii hospital where he is being treated.
