On the formation of ODM before the 2007 elections, Deputy President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga were best of friends.
Even after the 2007 post-election violence which led to a coalition government, Raila who became the prime-minister proposed William for a ministerial position in the Coalition government where the deputy was appointed the minister of Agriculture.
Politics having the funniest friends and enemies, their friendship didn’t last for long after when a scandal came up at the Agriculture ministry and William was forced to step aside. Since then the two have not been seen each other eye to eye.
The deputy has been against everything fronted by Raila including the new constitution in 2010, the IEBC reforms and the latest being the proposed referendum.
Every Kenyan knows that the former Prime-Minister controls a huge crowd in the country and everyone who wants to have the upper hand in 2022 elections needs to be close to this man for endorsement if he will not be on the ballot.
With Baringo Senator Gideon Moi coming on board and already declared he will be running for the big seat then the Rift Valley votes may be split, the only person who may safe Ruto may be Raila Odinga.
This is the time now the Deputy president needs to swallow his pride and start befriending the ODM leader if he really wants to be somewhere near the presidency come 2022.
The opposition leader in one of his rallies openly told the Deputy he will need him to win the 2022 elections.
