A four-storey building collapsed on Saturday morning in Kariobangi South estate in Nairobi, leaving tens of families homeless and properties worth millions destroyed.
A joint rescue effort by Nairobi county officials, Sonko Rescue team and and Red Cross emergency response managed to evacuate all the tenants from the building before it crumbled.
Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko who visited the scene of the collapsed 35-room block thanked the disaster response management team for their quick responses.
"We have managed to rescue all the tenants. No casualties, thanks to Almighty God,” he said.
One occupant said that they had noticed some signs of the building cracking way back on Friday and they immediately started evacuating before the building collapsed.
"We noticed some warning signs at around 10pm on Friday when cracks started to appear on the walls and on noticing that it was somehow serious we started evacuating the building before it finally came down on Saturday", he said.
According to Kenya Red cross, all residents who lived in the four-story building were evacuated before the collapse and no casualties have been reported.
“There were no casualties, but property got destroyed,” Ms Noella Musundi an Official of Kenya Red Cross said.
