Eight families of victims of a the 10 storey building that collapsed in Kisii over a month ago have been compensated Sh50,000 each.
Area County Commissioner Samuel Njora said the money was availed from the National Disaster Centre kitty which takes care of such accidents.
“The national Disaster Centre has given Sh50,000 to eight families and we have already awarded the affected families. Though it is difficult to compensate life of a person but it will help the families restart their lives," Karanja said.
“That is the rate sent to victims of such accidents across the country and I am happy that the government has expedited disbursement," he added
Kisii County government through Governor James Ongwae had earlier on given the affected families Sh15,000 each for burial expenses.
