Five families whose relatives died in the Mandera bus massacre last year have been paid more than Sh500,000 by the Kisii County government. Speaking when issuing the cheques to the families, county education executive John Omwoyo said the money was channeled to Kisii by the Council of Governors. Omwoyo said that each of the five families affected from the county has received Sh107, 000 to help them in covering basics. “This money is to help you cover your basic needs because some of you lost breadwinners,” he said. Omwoyo said that Governor James Ongwae had appealed to Mandera County government to give the money to help the affected families. The families thanked the county government for remembering them in their time of need and praised Ongwae for the initiative. “My daughter’s killing has really caused a lot of pain because she was the one who was supporting her siblings and I want to thank the county government for helping us this far with the money and it will help me pay fees for my children,” said one of the beneficiaries. The cheques were issued to: Richard Mochama, Abel Matundura, Margaret Omae, Zablon Ongau and Abel Moranga.
