The families of three youths who were shot by police during the anti-IEBC demonstrations in Bondo have read mischief in the postmortem report.
A preliminary autopsy report indicates that Maurice Okumu, 31, was shot in the head while Stephen Omondi, 23, had a gunshot to the thigh. 15-year-old Edward Ochieng had a gunshot to the chest.
Betha Akinyi the wife to Maurice Okumu said that the family expected to find dislodged bullets in the body of their loved one during the postmortem and also be informed of the number of bullets that killed him but this was not forthcoming.
The bullets, she said, would help them know the serial number of the bullet that was used and the firearm used by the specific police officer.
According to Emma Adhiambo, aunt to Edward, she started reading malice in the manner by which they were barred from seeing the bodies at the mortuary the day they were shot.
A source who requested anonymity revealed that he saw the police shooting the three and was surprised that no bullet was found in their bodies.
“The area police boss and the hospital management failed to explain to us why they gave instructions that barred family members, the public and media from viewing the bodies,” added the source.
Addressing the media after conducting the autopsy, consultant pathologist Dr Dickson Muchana, however, downplayed the claims that the families were not satisfied with the results.
“The families witnessed the exercise and when they come out and say that they are not satisfied with the outcome then I don’t know what else they expected,” said Dr Muchana.
The pathologist was flanked by Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) officers, County Director of Health Dr Samwel Omondi and Bondo sub-county medical superintendent Dr Willis Ochieng.
He said that the three victims died of gunshots.
A joint requiem for the three is slated for today (Friday) at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Memorial Park and NASA leaders are expected to attend.
