Residents of Kisumu’s Nyando Sub-County will have to contend with the current state of affairs as the perennial floods problem in the area is making them to have sleepless nights.
For the past one week, it has been tough for the residents as floods wreak havoc causing suffering that the residents go through during rainy seasons.
Diana Auma has been forced to spend the night in the cold at least for two days now even as the Red Cross tries to give humanitarian assistance to the affected families.
In the past one week alone, over 50 families have been displaced, property destroyed and livestock swept away by the floods.
Interestingly, as it used to be before, this time round, it is not River Nyando that is bringing all the menace. But instead, it is the little known river Kombewo.
According to Nyando Sub-County Administrator Mr Samuel Oron, all the families that have been living along the river have been affected and that the families are now in dire need of assistance which Red Cross has not been able to adequately provide.
"We appeal to all donors to come forward to help the affected families who so far have nowhere to sleep and with nothing to eat," said Mr Oron on Sunday.
Residents of K'Ochieng’ will have to be prepared for more tough days ahead if the government's laxity to address the flooding menace continues.
