A chaotic scene was created on Friday after more than 20 families missed out on the relief food which the government donated to the Mbomboini village in Kikuyu Sub-county.
The families which turned up in large numbers at Mbomboini chief’s camp where only 50 families benefited while an excess of 20 more went home empty handed.
They complained that the government did not donate enough to cater for all residents hence they urged the county government to intervene.
Led by James Muturi 70, the team of irate protested for not benefiting from the relief food. He said that he has experienced poverty and the government did not supply enough food terming it as negligence by the National government.
It took more than an hour for the Kikuyu Member of Parliament Ichungwa Kimani to calm the angry Wazee who took to the streets promising them that the next donation they will be prioritized as the first before any other family.
Ichungwa said that he will visit the County Government of Kiambu to ask the county boss to supply more food before the end of the month.
“I will engage the government to see if we can get more supplies of the relief food so as to cater for those that have missed,” he said.
According to the legislator, the food was meant to benefit only 58 families which were spotted by the community as the poorest and the 20 more that turned up were not counted from the listed families.
The MP however condemned the residents saying that diplomacy is a virtue instead of using force to solve petty issues like food.
He further asked the families to write their names down so that they will be the first beneficiaries in the next relief food donation.
