A family in Kanunga, Kiambu County is appealing for help from well-wishers after their house was gutted down by fire on Sunday in unclear circumstances.
Though there were no casualties, the family lost everything that was in the house in the huge inferno.
“I am appealing to all well wishers to help us any way they can to at least have a shelter. It had taken us a long time and resources to build this home but it all went within minutes,” Fred Karanja, the owner said.
According to Karanja's wife, Wanjiku Karanja, the fire occurred when there was no one around and it took the neighbours' efforts to put it off.
“I was called from where I operate a small business and I was told that my house was on fire. On arrival, I found everything was in ashes,” said Wanjiku.
Former area Councilor Gikera Koine said that there is a need for the county government to have a fully fledged disaster management team to deal with such occurrences.
“People should not suffer when they have a government that can deal with issues like this one of fire,” he said.
