A family in Gesero area Bomariba ward Kisii South Sub County is counting losses after unknown people poisoned their two cows to death.
A family member identified as Mokora said the cows were poisoned on Friday night by unknown people whose motive is yet to be established.
"We woke up on Friday morning only to find the 2 cows lying down dead bleeding blood from ears, eyes and noses,” he said.
Mokora added that the family has not been in good terms with one of the neighbors in the area.
"We suspect one of the neighbors might be behind the poisoning of the cows. It is a big loss we have incurred as a family but we leave everything to God to punish whoever poisoned the animals,” he added.
Area assistant chiefs Benjamin Ayuma said the matter is being investigated to determine the motive of the person who poisoned the cows.
Ayuma said the cows were buried because locals could not be allowed to consume the meat.
"We could not allow locals to slaughter and consume the meat as they wanted because we exactly didn't know the kind of poison that was given to the cows. We have launched investigations over the incident to bring the culprits behind this into book," said Ayuma.
