A family in Kiambu Town is demanding for a DNA test on the body of a dead baby girl whom they allege was exchanged with their live one in hospital.
According to the baby's mother, Millicent Achieng, she gave birth to a 'bouncing' baby boy at the Kiambu District Hospital last week but the following day a nurse allegedly came and took the boy only to inform her later that the child (a girl this time round) had died.
"I got a baby boy who was alive and kicking and I was very happy. This was however short-lived because the nurse exchanged my baby with a dead girl the following day," the disturbed mother told journalists yesterday at the hospital where they are following up on the matter with her mother.
The family maintains that their child was a boy and he is alive.
"As women, we don't dress babies before we confirm their sex. We demand a DNA to be done," Achieng's mother said.
The hospital Superintendent James Kariuki said they have no opposition to the family's demand and justice will have to be served. He said it is a rare case at the hospital for such allegations to come up.
