A family in Free Area estate is lucky to be alive, after their house caught fire on Tuesday night.
The fire, which was started by their four year old son who was playing with a matchbox, has left area residents in shock.
Pastor Irungu Gitau, father of three children said that they were lucky to be alive.
“We are lucky my wife entered the house as the fire had just started only to find the place full of smoke. The fire, which spread from the mattress to the entire house, was contained but had destroyed most of the things. My wife is still in shock and we are praying she will be okay,” he said.
The pastor appealed to the well-wishers to help them in rebuilding their lives, with most of the house stuff burnt.
“One of my children inhaled a lot of smoke and is currently admitted at the Nakuru Annex Hospital undergoing treatment. However, the others were treated and discharged early on Wednesday and we hope that there will not be any after effects of the fire,” he added.
The incident left many residents in shock, wondering what would have happened were it not for the intervention of the mother.
“We are praying for this young family at this great time of shock. We are grateful that no one was hurt in the incident and are also praying for the quick recovery of the one in hospital,” said Emily Kimani, a neigbour.
