Mary Njeri Karuga said that her son Samuel Githaiga Karuga a former pupil at St Gabriel Mission School in Lanet joined Chuka University after scoring grade B plain in KCSE in 2015.
Githaiga is said to have joined the university in September 2016 and studied for one semester but for the second semester he did not pay his fees despite the same having been given to him by his parents.
“The last time he spoke to his father was March this year when he assured him he had no difficulties despite lecturers being on strike………I am afraid that my child might have been recruited to join Alshabaab militants in Somalia,” she said.
Njeri added that efforts to trace the son in various police stations and correctional facilities have been futile.
The Father Moses Karuga Githaiga described the son as one of good behavior and with no criminal record since his childhood.
“After visiting the University, I was told that whereabouts of my son were unknown. Githaiga’s colleagues at the university told me that he was not interested in studies anymore and that he wishes to join the military,” said the Father.
The family is now appealing to the Government to assist him in tracing his son whom is termed as a pillar in the family.
