Those related to the late Susan Onyinkwa, led by uncle Wilson Onyinkwa, on Sunday asked asked the government to take blame and pay families who lost their loved ones in the deadly attack, which left 147 people dead.

Speaking at Risa Catholic, Onyinkwa said catering for funeral expenses was not enough for their family given the extreme poverty with three other siblings pursuing their studies in different institutions.

“The government ought to take full responsibility on what happened at Garissa. My brother is yet to come to terms with what happened and the only thing he wants is justice,” Onyinkwa said.

“We have three more siblings in various institutions and they hoped their departed sister would have stepped in upon completion to help them. This is why we are seeking justified compensation from the government of Kenya,” he added.

He said matters pertaining security were the sole function of the government and challenged parliament to pass legislation that will authorise compensation for families who lose their loved ones during terror attacks.

“Security in the sole function of the government hence we are justified to put our claim. Parliament should consider passing legislations that would authorise compensations for terror victims,” he said.
