A family in Miti Kenda in Ruiru Sub County has welcomed a draft bill by the government to bring Kenyans in foreign prisons home.
The family of Gerald Kamau Munuhe, who was sentenced last year to serve for five years in a Saudi Arabia prison, said they would be happy if their son is brought to a prison in Kenya so as to occasionally visit him.
"We pray this happens soon so that we can get a chance to see our son again," said Munuhe Kamau, Gerald's father.
He said that Gerald left the country in 2014 to work as an electrician in the Gulf country but has never returned home.
"Gerald was recruited by one of the local agencies and got a work permit to work as an electrician in 2014 and left in June the same year. We got news about his imprisonment from his friend who returned to the country last year," said Munuhe.
He reported that they were not informed of the crime he committed or the prison he is serving in.
"We only pray to God that one day we will see our son again," said Gerald's mother.
Kenya is drafting a Bill that will see its nationals in foreign jails repatriated to serve the rest of their terms in local prisons. The bill is being guided by the Attorney General Prof Githu Muigai.
