Desperate villagers have called for urgent intervention from county and national government as well as development partners as the dry spell continues to ravage some parts of the county as a result of delayed rains for three consecutive seasons.

Most schools visited had their enrollment drop significantly as school children have shifted with their parents to areas where they can get water and pasture for their domestic animals.

Records at Dihle nur Priamry School shows the school had total enrolment of 230 pupils but only 124 have remained behind.

The school head teacher Abdikadir Jirma said they are forced to also seek water from remaining parents of the pupils so as to cook food for the children adding that food at the school is what is retaining most of the pupils in school.

"Right now most of our students have migrated with their parents in serach of pasture because of the prolonged drought in this areas." said Jirma. Garissa County’s national drought management authority’s coordinator Mr. Abdinoor Dubow confirmed that Lagdera sub-county has been worst hit by the drought adding that they have been doing water tracking since December 2016.
