Maranda is one of the best performing schools in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)examinations.
The school located in Siaya County and has had a good performance record since the inception of the 8-4-4 curriculum in Kenya.
The school's alumni are mostly successful individuals in the country with some of them being famous Nyanza Politicians including;
1. Raila Odinga
After completing his primary education in Maranda Primary School, the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga joined Maranda High School before dropping out in 1962, to join the Herder Institute, a part of the Philological faculty at the University of Leipzig in East Germany.
2. Cornel Rasanga
Siaya's County first Governor, Cornel Rasanga joined Maranda High School for his O-Level secondary education between 1970 and 1974 after attending Segere Primary School.
3. Joshua Orwa Ojode
The late Joshua Orwa Ojode famously known as "Sirikal" served as the Member of Parliament of Ndhiwa Constituency and as the assistant minister of Provincial administration and internal security. "Sirikal" attended Maranda High School in 1973 and 1976 before proceeding to Ramapo college of New Jersey where he acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental studies and International studies.
4. Oburu Odinga
The former Bondo Member of Parliament Oburu Odinga who is also Raila Odinga's brother attended Maranda High School before joining The People's Friendship University of Russia.
5. Otiende Amollo
Paul Otiende Amollo is a Kenyan member of parliament representing Rarieda constituency. He is a member of ODM and a coalition member of National Super Alliance (NASA).
He attended Maranda High School before moving to the University of Nairobi to study Law.
