Siaya County is the home County of National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Amollo Odinga.
It borders Kisumu County and has a number of sites that are a dear to many residents.
If you are planning to visit Siaya sooner or later, do not leave without touring the following sites:
1. Nyang’oma Kogelo Village.
It is culturally marked by the local community as the birth place of the father of the 44th President of United States of America (USA) Barack Hussein Obama. You are assured of meeting Obama’s grandmother Sarah Obama.
2. Yala Swamp.
Its papyrus wetlands not only support a wealth of biodiversity, but form an economic basis for thousands of Siaya County residents who make handicrafts from the vital natural resource.
3. Ndanu Falls.
It has scenic waterfalls and rocky backyard, and has over the years attracted local and foreign tourists.
4. Lake Victoria.
Home to some of the beautiful beaches and fishing activities. Once can also see different types of fish species. However, Lake Victoria’s amazing sceneries can best be experienced in neighboring counties such as Kisumu, Homa Bay and Busia.
5. Lake Kanyaboli National Reserve.
It’s located near the vast Yala Swamp. It is home to papyrus specialist birds such as the Papyrus gonolek, Papyrus canary, Caruthers cisticola and the globally endangered Papyrus yellow Warbler.
