According to Maalim, Chebukati cannot run the commission without majority of commissioners.

The former Lagdera MP   argues that the best option for the electoral agency boss is to resign.

“Chebukati cannot run the commission or make any decision without majority of commissioners and the only thing he can do now is resign,” he said on Wednesday as quoted by a local daily.

Maalim said that Chebukati is to blame for the troubles at the polls agency.

He claimed that the IEBC chairman failed to bring order and stamp his authority.

“The IEBC boss should carry the blame for the mess at the commission because as the chair he should have stamped his authority and provided the right leadership,” he added.

Maalim added that the issues the opposition raised prior to the last year’s general election and presidential re-run have now come to haunt the electoral commission.

The former National assembly deputy speaker said that the resignation of Vice chairperson Consolata Nktaha Maina, Paul Kurgat and Margaret Mwachanya sealed Chebukati’s fate as the IEBC boss.

The three IEBC   commissioners resigned on Monday on grounds that Chebukati has failed to provide leadership.

The commissioner’s resignation came a week after Chebukati send Chief executive Officer (CEO) Ezra Chiloba on compulsory leave over tender related issues.

Chiloba efforts to be reinstated suffered a blow last week after the Labour and Industrial Court okayed Chebukati’s decision to suspend him.
