Former Garissa Township parliamentary aspirant Farah Maalim has responded, days after the NASA coalition postponed the swearing-in of its leader Raila Odinga as Kenya's president.
NASA had said it would inaugurate Raila and his Deputy WDM-K party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as deputy president on December 12, a day Kenyans would be celebrating Jamhuri Day.
The event was however postponed on Sunday, December 10, citing consultations.
However, Maalim who is Kalonzo's deputy had distanced himself from the swearing in, on Monday, November 4.
He said he was not part of any plans to swear-in Odinga, saying the process was a ‘recipe for chaos’.
“As someone with a legal background, I will like to uphold the law. I have not been part of any process that is arranging for the swearing in of Raila Odinga. I will hesitate endorsing any 'swearing in' because that is a recipe for chaos,” he said during a TV interview.
A day after December 12, the former National Assembly Deputy Speaker criticised those NASA leaders who criticised him following his stand.
He challenged them to come out and speak out after the event was postponed.
"When I objectively advised against the swearing in of Raila I was vilified on social media as a sellout. Now that Raila/family are not keen on the idea it would be interesting to see the reactions of many NASA social media enthusiasts.Transact politics with heads not hearts alone," said the politician.
