Wiper Party Deputy Leader Farah Maalim has exuded confidence that the High court will nullify Garissa MP Aden Duale’s re-election tomorrow (Tuesday).
In an interview on NTV’s AM Live show on Monday, the former National Assembly deputy speaker said that he presented a strong petition based on evidence and facts.
‘‘We are hoping and praying that the High court will rule in our favor so that we can have fresh, credible elections in Garissa Township,’’ he said.
Maalim urged his supporter’s to remain calm ahead of the Tuesday verdict.
The Wiper deputy leader petitioned Duale’s re-election alleging that the election was marred by massive illegalities and irregularities.
He further alleged that the National Assembly Majority leader campaigned and dished out money to voters on the polling day.
In his petition, Maalim also alleged that his agents were chased away in Masalani and Library polling centers.
Duale in his submissions rubbished Maalim claims, saying that they were not backed by evidence.
The National Assembly majority leader asked the court to dismiss the petition noting that his re-election reflected the wish of Garissa people.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Duale the winner of the Garissa seat in last year’s election.
According to IEBC results, Duale garnered 22,587 votes against Maalim’s 14,897 votes.
High court Judge Hedwig Ongudi will on Tuesday (tomorrow) deliver the ruling on the petition at 10 AM at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.
