They say death is usually a bad reaper, a blind reaper at that.

That it should pluck a young and promising leader from our midst at a time when he is much needed by his people is indeed sad.

As Elton John once sang to the late Princess Diana, we are indeed candles in the wind. The wind has blown off Dr. Gakuru's life leaving the people desolate as they needed inspirational leadership more than ever.

Death is indeed cruel. Yet we have to take solace in the after-life. Dr. Wahome Gakuru accomplished so much within his life.

As a result of the inevitability of death, we should always ask ourselves what we have achieved in our lives in the span the gracious Lord has given us.

As Kenyans, we have always been reminded to ask what we have done for our country, not what our country has done for us.

Under the auspices of Vision 2030, Dr. Gakuru dreamt of a country which is interconnected with good infrastructure.

It is a dream he never lived to see, but we hope is son will see soon.

All that we owe Dr. Wahome Gakuru is to fulfil his dreams and see Nyeri getting a share of the national cake through re-opening of rail infrastructure to the region and other regions as well.

Fare thee well wa Gakuru.
