The animals were allegedly killed by a speeding trailer along the Maai-Mahiu road while a number of other sheep were injured in the accident.

James Ole Mondet, the owner of the sheep said: "The sheep were crossing the busy highway for water at a nearby dam when the trailer hit them. Animals in this area use the road daily but the driver of the trailer ignored the road signs and hit my sheep," Mondet said.

According to Mike Ole Karatina, an eyewitness, the trailer was speeding when it hit the sheep.

"The driver of the trailer slowed down before speeding off moments after the accident occurred. This is not the first time that speeding motor vehicles have killed our livestock in this area," Karatina said.

Karatina added that they managed to take the number plates of the trailer and they have handed it to the police.

"It is just a matter of time before the police catch up with the driver of the trailer," he said.

Mondet urged the police to try as much as possible to track down the driver of the trailer which was heading to Nakuru.
