Famers in Uasin Gishu County have supported the move by Nairobi high court to reinstate Moiben Member of Parliament Sila Tiren as the chairman of Agriculture committee in the National Assembly.
Kenya Farmers Association (KFA) Director Kipkorir Arap Menjo said this a win for farmers not only in the region but across the country.
“As farmers, we are happy with the move and we want him to be reinstated permanently since he has the farmer’s problems at heart and as farmers from this region we support his agriculture chairmanship position,” he said in Eldoret town, Thursday.
“We cannot allow a person from North Eastern where they are not farmers to be given the position, how will he know our problems yet he is not a farmer. We are behind Tiren and no one else,” he added.
This comes after the Nairobi High court on Wednesday temporarily suspended a decision by the Jubilee party to remove four of its Members of Parliament (MPs) from National Assembly committees. The four MPs, Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Silas Tiren (Moiben), Kangogo Bowen (Marakwet East) and James Gakuya (Embakasi North) were elected National Assembly committee chairs against the Jubilee party leadership preferred candidates.
