Tea farmers of Sombogo in Kisii County have applauded the move made by Governor James Ongwae for setting aside funds for the construction of a new tea factory.
According to the residents, the tea factory will help them sustain themselves financially and empower themselves from their produce.
Evans Ondicho a resident at Sambogo area in Kitutu Chache North said the were initially forced to deal with a long distant factory that didn't help them achieve their farming dreams.
“We hope the construction will end on time as the county has set aside funds for the same as this will help farmers from the area,” he added.
The area governor announced that the factory construction will receive Sh30 Million while he was touring development projects in Kitutu Chache North on Wednesday.
He added that he expected the projects to start immediately as the National Environmental Management Authority (Nema) has given the project a green light after completing the impact assessment.
Residents of Kitutu Kitutu Chache who have been taking their tea to the neighboring Kitutu Masaba in Nyamira County in Tombe received the news with huge relief.
