Masinga Sub-county commissioner Muraya Mwangi has been blamed by Mwea Farmers Company Limited (MFCL) members of failing to turn up for a meeting he had promised to attend and instead sent police officers to disperse them.
This follows complains by the Company members that their directors have been oppressing them by selling their properties.
Speaking on Friday in Masinga town during the forum waiting for the District Commissioner, the members accused the DC and their directors of uniting to frustrate their efforts of coming into an amicable solution.
John Mwilu, a member of the MFCL stated that the members have been oppressed and harassed by the company management for a long time.
“We have endured oppression by our directors calling us old men. They have sold a lot of properties we have obtained through our savings as a whole and what we cannot accept is the latest grabbing of our company’s land,” said Mwilu
However, the Director of the farmers’ association James Kilonzo, replying to the farmers accusations, denied any claims of grabbing any land or selling any products belonging to the association.
“There is no plot belonging to any group of our company that has been sold. Earlier, we divided the whole plot of land and gave each member their own share to develop their lands independently,” said Kilonzo
Kilonzo further rubbished the complainers as a minute group that has moved to court before with other allegations together with this of land grabbing, and the court ruling nullified the claims as untrue.
“The same group moved to court last year August but the judge called-off the case and termed the management of MFCL merit as excellent,” added Kilonzo.
The members have called upon the County government of Machakos to intervene, and urged Lands Cabinet Secretary Kaluki Ngilu to help them acquire their land title deeds so as to get their grabbed pieces of land back.
