[Photo/Daily Nation]Farmers in the conflict-prone Kosovo area in Naivasha sub-county are seeking government protection as the planting season draws near. They said police should be deployed in the troubled area for protection and enable them prepare their lands for planting."The government has not set up an Administration Police camp as it had promised and we are fearing for renewed conflicts ahead of planting season. We need police presence in the area so that we can start cultivating our farms," a farm owner said on Thursday. Also calling for protection is the management of the Agriculture Development Corporation (ADC).The entity owns over 2,000 acres of land which has been at the centre of bloody conflict between farmers and pastoralists. In 2016, seven people were killed and several houses torched following a battle to control the land between the two rival groups.Hundreds of squatters have also invaded several farms in the area sparking conflict. However, Naivasha Deputy County Commissioner Isaac Masinde has assured farmers of their security, urging them to conduct their businesses without any worry."GSU officers will keep guard alongside other security officers and help restore peace in the area," Masinde said.
