Scores of farmers in Mang'u Ward, Gatundu North Constituency woke up to a horrific day today after their sheep were stolen by a suspected gang.
The thieves allegedly raided their homes, stole their sheep and slaughtered them in a nearby farm.
More than ten sheep were reported to have been stolen though the number might increase as more farmers have reported their flocks missing.
“I woke up at around 6am and when I later went to feed my five sheep, I realised they were missing. I informed my neighbour and later on, community policing official called and informed me that they have discovered some signs of slaughtered animals in a nearby farm,” Hannah Wairimu, one of the affected farmers said.
Pius Munyiri, another farmer, confirmed the same case where the alleged thieves made away with his four sheep, a crime that has been on the rise in several parts of Gatundu, Kiambaa and Limuru.
Area community policing chairman Patrick Ndung’u, arrived at the scene of the slaughter and confirmed the incident. He urged the locals to share information that might help in the arrest of the perpetrators.
“I would like to urge you to partner with local authorities at the grassroots to boost security through information sharing. We have identified trails of motorbike movement and we suspect the crime was carried out using motorbikes. Anyone with information about this crime among others that have been reported should come out and help in investigations,” Ndung’u said.
The residents now want the government to help them by conducting security patrols. They also called upon the health inspectorate department to inspect meat in the eateries across the town since it may have been supplied there.
