Kiambu County agriculture CeC Monicah Waiganjo has warned beneficiaries of free fertilisers that they risk being arrested should they sell the fertiliser.
Waiganjo who was speaking on Monday at the Makongeni NCPB stores while distributing the fertiliser and other farm inputs to needy farmers in the region said the inputs were meant to assist widows, the physically handicapped and the poor achieve food security at family level.
She added that she will send agents to spy on how the fertiliser is used and anyone found selling it will be dealt with accordingly.
Waiganjo also asked those charged with the responsibility to ensure that only those who were vetted are given the 50kg bag of fertiliser and 10kg of maize seed.
She assured residents that the county government is working around the clock to avail subsidised fertiliser in good time as they understand the challenges that the farmers encountered last year where they were forced to depend on relief food.
The CeC said that a 50kg Mavuno bag will cost Sh1,000 adding the county government was committed to ensuring that residents afford farm inputs.
The county government has purchased 72,000 bags of fertiliser to issue to the county poor with every ward getting 4,000 bags.
