The government has challenged farmers across the country to embrace modern and new agricultural technologies so as to improve productivity.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett has further asked farmers to shift from the traditional agricultural activities and focus on practicing agribusiness.

Addressing farmers when he visited the Eldoret National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depot on Saturday, the CS said the Jubilee administration was committed to transforming the agriculture sector in the country.

"Agriculture touches on every Kenyan and it's the most effective way of poverty reduction. This is why we want to make agriculture economically viable and help in improving livelihoods," Bett said.

"We also want farmers to move from doing agriculture and engage in agribusiness. Use modern technologies that will enable them increase productivity and income," he added.

Agriculture is among the key economic pillars in the country and President Uhuru Kenyatta while giving a speech during his inauguration for a second term in office named the sector among four key areas that his administration will be seeking to improve for the nation's prosperity.
