Coffee farmers from Kagwanja area of Komothai Ward have expressed their disappointment to the area administration due to the constant coffee theft from coffee factories.
Speaking during their annual general meeting at Kagwanja coffee factory, one of the farmers, James Kagua, said that the administration should make sure that security for their property is their core objective.
“The security organs in this area have a sole business, which is to provide security to the residents and their property. It is very disappointing to see how the factories in this area are being raided one by one and the coffee stolen” Mr. Kagua said
He added that the factory management has a question to answer and have some responsibilities to ensure that coffee theft ends. He said that the management should not let the coffee stay in the factory for long after it is dry and ready for sale. He said that if the coffee has to stay in the factory, then the management should ask for police officers to guard the factory at all times.
Acting police OCS at Kigumo police station John Kiiri revealed that they arrested three coffee thieves this morning in another area who were armed and had a Probox to commit crime.
They are allegedly in custody and helping police with investigations.
