Farmers in Kisii are counting huge losses caused by monkeys that invaded their farms.

They said the groups of monkeys have since multiplied over the previous years as the damage caused is far more than last years.

They are afraid that they may not be able to make any harvest this year.

“We experience a lot of losses of 50-80 maize crops lost daily. They seem to have moved in large numbers something that is giving us headache," Nyamori.

Efforts to curb the apes have bore no fruits as they seem to be too smart for the locals.

“We tied dogs in the farm but the primates seem to monitor every move as they know the dogs are harmless since they are tied up and continue to 'harvest' our crop," said  Titus Onyancha.

They also said some have tried to poison the primates but they have not fallen into their traps.

“I tried to poison some of them but they seem to read the signs. We wonder what we will do to curb them," said Samuel Mogire.

They now want wildlife officers to intervene into the crisis.
