Farmers along with non-governmental organizations have spoken out over the recent increase in donkey theft within Nakuru, Narok, Baringo and Bomet counties.

As a result they have asked the government to implement strict regulations on the donkey meat industry as to put an end to the problem.

During an event held by Farming Systems Kenya (FSK) and Brooke East Africa at Njoro Park, Nakuru the groups condemned the increase in theft and highlighted how the decline in the population of the animals

“Every now and then our organization is receiving complaints from farmers of their donkeys having been stolen,” said Raphael Kinoti, FSK CEO as quoted by The Daily Nation.

Kinoti added that police officers are not helping the situation after reports emerged that they were turning away farmers reporting the theft of their donkeys.

“Farmers have reported of police officers who laugh them off when they report that their donkeys have been stolen telling them that those are not serious cases to record,” Mr Kinoti said.
