Ezekiel Terer, an official from the county, said that the lake has been polluted and the county government is carrying out an inspection to establish what caused the pollution.

Speaking Tuesday when he led a county delegation in inspecting the lake, Teret said that the water which has turned green is poisonous and has affected most animals in the area.

He said animals which have drunk water from the lake in the recent past have developed skin rushes and weak joints something he said might have been caused by high fluorine levels at the lake.

“The lake is polluted and everyone can see it and we have instructed all chiefs to tell the residents that this water is not fit for animal consumption. We have taken samples to our Nakuru laboratory and we will release the results as soon as possible,” said Terer.

Last week Rongai livestock farmers reported a change in the colour of the water at the lake which is the main source of water for their animals and farms.
