Farmers in Eldoret town today went on rampage to force the government to announce maize prices or they will continue to hold peaceful demonstrations. Led by Moiben MP Silas Tiren and politician Jonathan Bii they said they want the government to announce the maize price not later than tomorrow.
They demand for the price to not be lower than Ksh.3500 per a 90kg sack. "The government must announce the price at which maize will be sold. Failure to that we we will continue to demonstrate", said Tiren.
"We have deliberated amongst ourselves and we have agreed on a price of Ksh.3500", said Bii. The farmers said that there are unscrupulous businessmen in the North Rift hellbent on sabotaging the farmers.
"Farmers in North Rift have continued to feed this country since independence and it is only now that some unscrupulous leaders and businessmen have come about to destroy farming here. We are saying no and we want the cereals board opened instantly", said Moira Chepkok, a farmer.
