Farmers in Jambele area, Garissa county are counting huge loses after River tana burst it banks, destroying their crops.
Heavy rains that have been pounding the area for the last two weeks saw it the River Tana , their main source of irrigation, overflow, submerging their vast crops irredeemably.
Some of the crops submerged in the raging water include; tomatoes, peppers, watermelon, maize and pawpaw. Most of this products were ready to be harvested before this tragedy struck.
Abdullahi Muhumed, a farmer, lamented that the crops were the main source of his livelihood as a handful of livestock he owned perished duting the ravaging drought that has characterized the region.
"The crops were the main source of our livelihood. We invested alot in it to reap huge products, but now that is infeasible as the raving floods destroyed most of the crops we have banking on," said the farmer.
The farmers pleaded with disaster management to intervene and mitigate further disasters that could wreak destruction. The farmers further urged the county government to compensate them since they left with nothing to depend on in life.
