Farmers and grocers at Nakuru`s 'Top' and 'Wakulima' markets have hailed the free WI-FI services saying it has enabled them to reach out to diverse markets on the OLX platform for improved yields and updated information on new farming and marketing trends.
The traders and farmers are yielding more than they bargained for on the 'Bila Waya' free WI-Fi services set up by the Presidential Digital Unit in conjunction with the County government of Nakuru.
"The free internet service has expanded my market over the last six months. I am able to sell fruits and vegetables online, I am now able to reach more customer," Joseph Kariuki a grocer at the Top Market said.
The free WI-Fi services also enables him keep abreast of costing trends of fresh market produce while he keeps in touch with farmers and suppliers of groceries for more stock.
The online platform has also enabled him establish a loyal clientele that only needs to check his portal online for fresh fruits and vegetables which he delivers to them upon a phone call from them.
Nakuru town has five WI-Fi hot spots spread across the town which are currently benefiting students and professionals in the town and most of them say the benefits of the free internet service far outweigh its drawbacks of occasional slow speed.
