Farmers in Matuiku area, Rongai Constituency in Nakuru County are have reported a foot and mouth disease outbreak which they say has killed 10 cows so far.
The farmers further say they have not received any help from the government, even as more cows show signs and symptoms of infection.
The farmers further note that no help has been forthcoming from even area veterinaries, who are asking them to first fuel their motorcycles before going to medicate their animals.
The residents, who spoke to a local media house, are now calling on the government to step in and help them.
“Our cows started to show signs of the disease last week. The feet are swollen and their mouths produce some kind of foam, that is when we contacted the veterinaries and they told us that has to be foot and mouth disease,” says one farmer.
They also sought help from the county government, which they say has also been quiet.
“We are calling on our governor Lee Kinyanjui and Raymond Moi (MP) to come to our help since we only depend on the animals for survival,” he added.
