Speaking yesterday at Tombe market during a farming forum organized by the county government, former Kitutu Masaba MP. Hon. Walter Nyambati said the plant will enable banana farmers start large scale farming.

“It will be fair if our county government will start a banana processing plant in this place to help thousands of farmers. It will be important if banana farming is done in large scale rather than small scale,” said the former legislator.

He said the county was losing millions of shillings to other places following exportation of the commodity to neighboring counties and countries because there is no existing plant in the area.

“The county is losing revenue that can otherwise be used to develop the region due to exports of the banana fruits from this area,” added Nyambati.

John Onsarigo, chairman of Banana farmers from the area reiterated need to have the plant and said it will create extra employment opportunities for youths from the county.

“Establishment of the plant will not only help us significantly but also give opportunities to our young population in terms of employment,” said Onsaringo.
