Farmers in Uasin Gishu County urge Agriculture CS to announce maize prices
Farmers in Uasin Gishu County have called upon Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett to announce maize buying prices with immediate.
They said they are already harvesting their produce therefore need to open the National Cereals and Produce Board and thereafter announce the maize buying prices."President Uhuru Kenyatta recently announced that the treasury has set aside sh 6 billion to buy maize from farmers," said the Director of Kenya Farmers Association Kipkorir Arap Menjo in Eldoret town,Friday."We want a price that will compensate us from the challenges we faced such as climate change and armyworm infestation," added Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut.They reiterated that wheat and maize prices should be increased for farmers to be motivated to continue farming."National Cereals and Produce Board should be opened with immediate effect to prevent farmers from being exploited by middlemen by offering them poor prices," added Director of Kenya farmers association Kipkorir Arap Menjo."If farmers are well looked into Kenya will be food secure," noted Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut.
