Ogeto went to harvest his maize after they had shown signs of maturity only to find out that the maize farm had been harvested by someone else.

According to him, he had inspected his yard on Wednesday and informed his wife Jane Ogeto of the progress, before the two planned to harvest the maize on the fateful day (Thursday).

“This is a blow to me and my family. We had planned to use the maize to evade hunger that has invaded the place but it was never to be,” said devastated Ogeto adding that he actually discovered the incident when he arrived at the yard ready to start harvesting.

He said the incident was the first of its kind and suspected that suspected thieves could have been motivated by hunger currently experienced in the area due to insufficient harvest during last harvest.

“This is the first time thieves are executing such a disgusting act. I think food scarcity that has resulted into hunger in the neighbourhood could be the motivation behind the act,” added Ogeto.

Area chief James Mogeni confirmed the incident and warned the area residents that anybody who will be found committing such crime will face charges of theft, and instead ask for help in case they lacked food stuff.

“We are not in an arid area and are so disgusted with the incident. If you cannot afford food just let us know instead of harvesting what does not lawfully belong to you,” advised Chief Mogeni.
