The farmers, who were promised a 100-acre piece of land to plant Beniko seeds, are now in fear of losing the money if the government fails to act.

The aggrieved farmers who struggled to get the money and paid upon the promise, said they were turned away from carrying any activities on the said piece of land on February 18.

“I borrowed a loan from M-Shwari to top up the amount that was needed to book my share in this venture. We were told to wait for a while and on February 18 when we arrived at the farm to commence our activities, we were turned away and the matter has not been addressed,” said James Kamau, one of the affected farmers.

The farmers who immediately started follow up plans to get their money refunded said that their plans have been futile and their attempts to call for the county government to step in are yet to bear fruit.

“We have always been on a back and forth journey from Kiongo to Kabazi and to the office off the governor. We requested the minister of agriculture to assist us but our cries are yet to be heard. We conducted a peaceful demonstration yesterday so that our grievances can be attended to,” Jane wanjiru, a farmer confirmed.

They have now urged the governor to address the matter afresh and ensure that justice is served to them as most of them had to part with a fortune to have a share in the promised ‘goldmine’.
